ORGANIC MOTION HELPS CREATE IMMERSIVE DIGITAL EXPERIENCE AT SONY WONDER TECHNOLOGY LAB
First Public Entertainment Installation to Create Real-time 3D Animations of Attendees
NEW YORK - JULY 13, 2009 - Organic Motion today announced the deployment of its unique computer vision technology in the new "Dance Motion Capture" experience at the Sony Wonder Technology Lab (SWTL) in midtown Manhattan. The new exhibit adapts Organic Motion’s technology to give SWTL visitors the unprecedented opportunity to use their own movements to bring Sony animated characters to life. Upon stepping into one of three new "Dance Pods," each attendee becomes a "puppet master," controlling a life-size film or video game character in real-time. The new experience is one of 14 new interactive exhibits recently unveiled after an extensive renovation to the SWTL’s third and fourth floors.
The Lab’s "Dance Motion Capture" exhibit marks the world’s first public entertainment experience to incorporate markerless motion capture, a new way to digitize human motion that is free of all markers or tracking devices. Children and parents alike can step into the "Dance Pods," and instantly have their full body motion animated onto a character of their choice. Leveraging Organic Motion’s breakthrough OpenStage™ technology, the new attraction showcases how people interact with technologies used to create 3D games and movies, and are transforming the way people use computers.
Unlike traditional motion capture, which requires the subject to put on special tracking body suits, Organic Motion’s systems let people simply wear their regular clothing. This is especially beneficial for other applications for the general public as well, such as sports, medicine and entertainment, where a number of individuals can quickly pass through the system and have each person’s exact body movement be digitized and streamed instantly into software for analysis or display. From medical to entertainment, animation to retail, a wide range of industries already benefit from the advancements made by Organic Motion.
"We are proud to bring markerless motion capture to the general public and to have worked with Sony to create a fun, accessible, educational and immersive experience for children of all ages," said Andrew Tschesnok, CEO of Organic Motion. "Our OpenStage™ computer vision technology is designed to unlock the power of human motion, and we’re thrilled to work with a partner as cutting-edge as Sony to give people an experience they can’t find anywhere else."
The Sony Wonder Technology Lab is open FREE to the public, Tuesday through Sunday. The Lab is closed on Mondays and major holidays. For more information about the SWTL, visit www.sonywondertechlab.com.
